About this Speaker

Terese Acampora is a leading advocate for culturally-sensitive quality care. Throughout her career, the chief operating officer of hospice, palliative care, as well as home care programs and services at MJHS Health System has focused on community-based care, navigating reimbursement and regulatory challenges, advancing innovative industry standards, championing education and training opportunities for staff, partnerships, and ensuring patients receive support wherever they live—whether at home, in hospitals, assisted living communities, or nursing homes across New York City and Long Island, including the MJHS Mollie and Jack Zicklin Hospice at Menorah Center, or the MJHS Isabella Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Upper Manhattan.

Rooted in the core values of compassion, dignity and respect, MJHS was founded in 1907. In addition to providing mission-driven hospice, palliative care and home care programs and services in the Greater New York Area, the not-for-profit organization also offers Elderplan Medicare Advantage and HomeFirst Managed Long-Term Care Plans and includes a research-focused Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care.

Acampora first joined MJHS Home Care as a care coordinator in 1985. During the next 17 years, she was promoted to increasingly senior supervisory positions, including the role of administrator and director of patient services. In 2002, she left the organization and then returned as senior vice president of MJHS Home Care in June of 2016—a position she held until named senior vice president of MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care in 2017. While at the helm of MJHS Home Care, Acampora led the clinical operations team through successful Joint Commission certifications and MJHS Home Care exceeded many state and national benchmarks for quality outcomes, plus demonstrated steady improvement in patient satisfaction scores. When she assumed leadership of MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care , Acampora oversaw development of a strategic plan to address two of the largest challenges facing hospice programs in New York City: census and length of stay. Acampora was named COO of MJHS Hospice and Home Care in 2020.

Acampora has a Master of Arts from Brooklyn College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wagner College. Prior to her most recent positions at MJHS, Acampora had a leadership role at VNS Health.
